Editorial Design
A second year project at university with a focus on exploring how text and images can be combined within a publication, using a grid to achieve a balance between consistency and fluency. The challenge wass to create a flexible layout that can work with different kinds of information – continuous text, captions, footnotes, large images, small images etc – and support different kinds of reading strategies while being visually engaging and appropriate for the audience. A sense of coherence was required throughout the publication without seeming repetitive.
The challenge with this project was finding a system that worked well with three different articles: a full text article, one with a few images and an image dominant article. It was difficult at first as this was the first project of this kind that I completed but it was a huge learning experience and a very enjoyable project.
